Hi All
Well we decided that our Club was the 'International' bit of Egham International, with our competitors from the UK, USA, Germany, South Africa, Zimbabwe & I'm sure I've probably missed one or two Countries. Sunday was a lovely day to be sitting by the river, having a beer & watching all the crews from fine boating & skiffing in action. Not so from out on the river, with copious amounts of sweat being expended, yes even from the ladies, they weren't just glowing radiantly. But as they say when the going gets tough, the tough get going & that's exactly what our squad did.
Trying to maintain or even close the gap on Dittons was never going to be easy & there were a number of new faces in their team that I'm sure will trouble us going forward as they did on the day. In the end we manage to close the gap overall by 1 Ormiston point as we secured 5 wins as opposed to their 4 & TVSC's 1 point. There's now only 2 points between us at the Top of the League Table.
So who were the winners on the day .........
Dave (Stretch) Strassburg, Henry Roffey, coxed Toni Weekes
Verena Diehl, Lesley Russell, coxed Toni Weekes
Laura Goddard, Jacqui Dokoupil, coxed Stella Voutsina
Henry Roffey, Laura Goddard, coxed Jacqui Dokoupil
Oh & one other ...... that'll be me then.
Well done to all that competed whether at the oars or steering a cunning course & we now look forward to the shorter course at Thames Valley on 10th July, when it's hoped a few more novices will taste their first success & joined by more of the old hands.
Cheers
Roger
